This policy explains how fwnds handles information in the iOS app and on fwnds.app. The app is built for small circles of people who intentionally choose each other, with no public profiles or stranger discovery.
Effective August 19, 2026Short version: fwnds stores the profile details, plans, availability, and yaps you choose to share so accepted fwnds can keep up with you. Private plans stay visible only to you, invite links reveal only enough to identify the inviter, and nothing becomes a public profile. fwnds does not sell your information or use it for advertising.
The private-circle basics
Friendship is double opt-in. An invite or request does not make someone your fwnd; both people must confirm the connection.
fwnds has no public profiles, searchable directory, follower counts, or stranger discovery.
Removing a fwnd ends their in-app access to the information and content that is limited to accepted fwnds.
A valid invite page may show the inviter’s nickname so the recipient knows who sent it. Anyone with the link may be able to see that nickname until the link expires or is revoked, so treat invite links as private.
Information fwnds handles
Account information, including your email address, Apple sign-in information, account identifier, authentication session, and onboarding state.
Profile information you choose to add, such as your name or nickname, profile photo, birthday, phone number, friend-facing email, city, country, time zone, call preference, and addresses.
Friendship information, including invite links, requests, accepted or removed connections, request status, and the friendship-year answers used to confirm that two people know each other.
Availability information, including whether you are reachable, when that window ends, and whether you prefer a phone or video call.
Calendar plans you create, including dates, descriptions, emoji markers, and whether you marked a plan private.
Yaps you publish, including video, audio, selected photo overlays, duration, creation time, and viewing state used to track what you have already seen.
Device and service information needed to operate fwnds, such as notification and Live Activity tokens, delivery attempts, basic request logs, and error or diagnostic information.
What accepted fwnds can see
Accepted fwnds can see the profile and contact details you add, including addresses. Only add information you are comfortable sharing with every accepted fwnd in your circle.
Accepted fwnds can see your current availability, its end time, your call preference, and your city or country information.
Accepted fwnds can see calendar plans that you have not marked private. Plans marked private are visible only to you.
Accepted fwnds can watch the yaps and photo overlays you publish. A yap is persistent until you delete it or your account; it is not a temporary availability signal.
Location
If you enable location access, fwnds uses your device location to identify your city and country. The precise coordinates are used for that lookup and are not saved to your fwnds profile.
fwnds stores the resulting city, country, country flag, and the time the city was updated so accepted fwnds can understand roughly where you are.
If you opt into automatic city updates and allow the required iOS permission, fwnds may check for significant location changes in the background. You can turn location access off in iOS settings.
Camera, microphone, and photos
fwnds asks for camera and microphone access only so you can record a yap, and for photo-library access so you can choose photos to include in it or use as your profile photo.
A draft stays on your device until you publish it. When you publish, the video and chosen photo overlays are uploaded to private storage so accepted fwnds can play the yap.
fwnds does not upload photos you did not choose. You can manage camera, microphone, and photo permissions in iOS settings.
How we use information
To create and secure your account, authenticate you, keep your profile available, and restore your session.
To provide friend invites, private profiles, availability, shared and private calendar plans, yaps, unseen-yap state, notifications, and Live Activities.
To prevent invite abuse, deliver requested notifications, investigate failures, protect fwnds and its users, and maintain and improve the service.
We do not sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising.
Service providers and other disclosures
Supabase provides authentication, database, private file storage, realtime updates, and server-side functions for fwnds.
Apple provides sign-in, device permissions, location lookup, push notifications, and Live Activity delivery. Information handled by Apple is also subject to Apple’s privacy practices.
Vercel hosts the fwnds website, and Tally runs the optional website waitlist form. If you use that form, Tally processes the information you submit and may receive routine browser and request information.
These providers receive information only as needed to perform services for fwnds. They may process information in countries other than your own.
We may disclose information when required by law, to respond to valid legal process, to protect people or the service, or to investigate abuse or security issues.
Retention and deletion
We keep your account information and content while your account is active and for as long as needed to provide fwnds.
An availability window stops showing you as reachable when its timer ends. Related delivery, reliability, or security records may remain longer.
Yaps and calendar plans remain until you delete them or delete your account; they do not expire with an availability window.
You can delete your account in the app. Account deletion removes your authentication account, profile-owned database records, profile photos, and yap media from fwnds. Limited backup, security, or legal records may remain until they are safely deleted or no longer required.
Your choices and rights
You can edit profile details, addresses, call preference, availability, and calendar plans in the app. You can delete your yaps, remove fwnds, and revoke or regenerate invite links.
You can control location, camera, microphone, photo-library, and notification permissions in iOS settings. Some features will not work without the permissions they need.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, or to object to or restrict certain uses. Contact us to make a request.
Where processing depends on your consent, you may withdraw that consent. Other processing may be necessary to provide the service, comply with law, or protect fwnds and its users.
Security
fwnds uses access controls and private storage intended to keep profiles and content limited to the right people. No service can guarantee perfect security, so protect your sign-in links, codes, and friend invite links.
Children
fwnds is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Changes
We may update this policy as fwnds changes. The latest version will be posted here with a new effective date.
